American Idol: Nigel Lythgoe 'Idol Gives Back' Conference Call
(thanks to purerobbie.com)
''Robbie Williams is also going to be there, and Nigel wants to keep what he's doing a surprise. It's the performance he's most looking forward''
American Idol: Nigel Lythgoe 'Idol Gives Back' Conference CallNigel Lythgoe, the executive producer and man behind the curtain for American Idol, held a conference call today to discuss Idol Gives Back, the epic charity event that American Idol will host for the second year one week from today. Idol Gives Back will air on FOX Wednesday, April 9 from 7:30pm to 10pm and feature a boat load of celebrities and performing artists in an effort to provide aid for the world's needy. Last year's Idol Gives Back raised $76 million and Nigel hopes that this year's event brings in even more. He spoke about the show to the media today. These are the highlights from the conference call. Last night, David Cook had heart palpitations and high blood pressure. He's fine now. Ellen Degeneres can not do the show because it's just too much, apparently. Her dropping out means that it's only going to be more Seacrest. Half of the show will be filmed on Sunday from the Kodak Theater, and Seacrest will now host it. There was going to be a Mariah Carey/Marvin Gaye duet, but they couldn't get the rights to Marvin, so it's not going to happen. Nigel says the most difficult thing about putting Idol Gives Back together is just putting together the pieces. It's a big puzzle. Incorporating all the pieces from the celebrities is hard. The footage is still coming in. The list of people is huge, and more people who haven't been been announced yet. Adam Sandler and Drew Carey are two new names I haven't heard yet that Nigel mentioned. There are six major charities that the proceeds will be going to this year. The celebrities appear because they want to show that everyone is involved, everyone should be involved. The presidential candidates will be on the show as well. Brad Pitt will be there in person. Robbie Williams is also going to be there, and Nigel wants to keep what he's doing a surprise. It's the performance he's most looking forward. Heart will be performing with Fergie. The British Prime Minister is going to appear and make a statement.

Nim's Four-Letter Words
Nim's Four-Letter Words by Lisa Johnson Mandell
4/2/2008 at 4:11:41 PM
At a time when ten-year-olds are wearing mini-skirts, platform pumps and tattoos, it’s really quite comforting to come across an 11-year-old who is too busy reveling in her own childhood to yet dream of a push-up bra. Such is the case with Little Miss Sunshine Abigail Breslin, even if her Nim’s Island co-star Gerard Butler did call her a “nasty little lawyer.”He was just kidding, of course. Whimsy seems to take hold when you’re sitting on a beautiful beach on Oahu’s west shore, waves crashing behind you and tropical sun shining down upon journalist and talent alike. Since Nim’s Island was filmed on beaches and islands in Australia, Fox figured the least they could do was take us as far as Hawaii to interview stars Jodie Foster, Butler and Breslin.

At first, 300 bare-chested wonder Butler – seemingly making a bid for broader appeal with P.S. I Love You and now Nim’s - told FilmStew it was absolutely great working with Breslin. “Literally, as I was filming with her, I thought, ‘Okay, I could have a kid like this,” he exclaims. “This makes me want to settle down and have kids. Generally, when you work with child actors, they’re very smart, they’re very talented.”In Breslin’s case, evidently smart and talented enough to realize the practicality of saddling a free-spirited Scot like Butler with a swear jar. “I swear a lot, and I try not to,” Butler admits. “But the more I try not to, the more it happens; Abigail charged me two dollars every time I swore [on set]. I’d try to make deals, I’d try to get out of it, but she wouldn’t give me credit. It cost me like 60 or 70 bucks.” Adds Breslin: “He paid a lot. I asked him for $12, he gave me $20, and then he was like, ‘Well now I have credit.’ But that’s not how it works. So I think he learned his lesson. We donated all the money to the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA).”
Later on, it was Breslin’s answer to another question that really made me wonder about the business savvy of this showbiz youngster. I mentioned that as a kid, I used to think how cool it would be to live like the Swiss Family Robinson or Robinson Crusoe, and wondered if she in her current youth shared that sentiment. “No, I think I would miss watching TV and American Idol and stuff,” she replies. Was Breslin just being a little American girl, or was she cognizant of the fact that both Nim’s and the outrageously popular television show are part of the same News Corp. family, and that she might as well take advantage of the opportunity to promote both at the same time? While I like to think that she was naively chatting about her favorite TV show, perhaps she is indeed already that sophisticated a master of the PR game. I spent the whole day watching Robbie Williams videos
I got stuck again and lost a lot of time watching movies and short videos on the Internet… Anyway, here’s one I liked.

So, my--I mean, our Gerry faced some competition last week with Hugh Jackman. An excellent adversary by any means!
Anyhoo, this week's challenge pits Gerry against two young guns.
Gerard Butler vs. Josh Duhamel vs. John Krasinski
Josh is beautiful. And talented. And engaged to Fergie. Okay, so 2 out of 3 ain't bad.
John is adorable. I think he's the kind of guy that I'd be with if I couldn't be with Gerry.
Ahhhhhhh.......
Uh oh, could someone pull my head out of the clouds, please? I think my head might pop from oxygen deprivation!
Whew. That's better.
Alright, here we go!!

'Island' not so tropical after all
BY CINDY PEARLMAN
'Hey, I like Chicago," Gerard Butler is saying. "I'm a city guy."
"I've worked in Chicago and hung out in Chicago. I had a girlfriend who lived at the Taylor Street projects," says the 38-year-old Scottish screen hunk. "I would stay at the projects with her, and had the time of my life. I was this guy from Glasgow who just walked around the projects with attitude.

"I have to say that I was never hassled," says the man who saved Sparta as King Leonidas in "300." "I think life is all about attitude. And maybe I didn't notice if someone was about to hassle me at the projects. I was too busy kissing my beautiful girlfriend."
Butler is bringing his charm and attitude now to "Nim's Island," opening Friday. He plays a scientist, who, after the death of his wife, moves with his pre-teen daughter (Abigail Breslin of "Little Miss Sunshine") to a deserted island. When he is lost at sea, his daughter e-mails her favorite fiction book action character (Jodie Foster, as the book's author), who must fight her fears of leaving her house to save the little girl.
"It's sweet, funny and adventurous, but also a little dark at times," Butler says. "But in the end, the film has a nice message about courage and creating your own destiny. The message also is, 'You must get up off your ass in this life and do something in order to save yourself.' "
It wasn't easy for Butler to save himself on this shoot. Most of his scenes are spent lost at sea, where he's in the freezing cold ocean repeatedly.
"All of us were put through the mill on this one," he says. "It just became a joke. For me, I didn't realize exactly how much time I would spend in the water, and most of my boat stuff was done at sea.
"We filmed in Australia during the winter and I came to this set already sick with a chest thing from filming the new Guy Ritchie film 'RocknRolla.' Then I end up in this freezing ocean water where I thought I'd definitely get pneumonia," he says.
"I was soaking wet for most of my scenes. And the sea was bloody choppy. A few times my entire body went under the main tour ship we were using for the cameras. The current began to take me out. And you couldn't hold onto anything."
The film is also a virtual animal festival. "If the trainers were around, the animals were friendly, although the gigantic birds were hard to control," he shudders. "Abigail was great with the sea lions. I didn't feel like I could go over to a sea lion and give it a cuddle.
"To me, they looked so dangerous, and their teeth looked very sharp. They also weighed three or four times more than me. They looked at me like, 'Gerry, stay away.' Maybe they didn't like '300.' "

Cameron Diaz and Gerard Butler Get Cozy?
Cameron Diaz and Gerard Butler Get Cozy?

Cameron Diaz, who was last linked to Criss Angel and John Mayer, got up close and personal with Gerard Butler, the Scottish-born star of 300, at Teddy’s nightclub in LA on March 29, a new report claims. "They ignored everyone else,” an onlooker tells Life & Style. “They just kept getting closer and closer."
Cameron Diaz and Gerard Butler Get Cozy?
Gerard, 38, couldn’t get enough of the 35-year-old actress Cam, the eyewitness claims. "There was a lot of thigh and arm touching,” says the onlooker, “which got more progressive as the night went on.” Between sips of champagne and water, Cameron seemed to be laughing at all of Gerard’s jokes.
***
“At one point,” the onlooker adds, “she placed her bottle of Voss water between her legs, and Gerard put his hand on it.” But just as the couple (who also reportedly had dinner together at the Chateau Marmont in LA on March 27) were about to lock lips, a group of tipsy girls interrupted them and asked for a photo.
“Gerard was annoyed at first,” says the insider, “but then was amused to discover the girls had no idea who he was. They just wanted him to take a picture of them, which he did!” And then, of course, he got back to canoodling with Cameron.
